While hypnotizing a death-row inmate, psychologist Yu Tinglan was stabbed through the heart and died young.
When he opened his eyes again, he had become a lop-eared rabbit guide. He also underwent a second awakening to the exceptionally rare S-rank and gained a companion ability: mind reading.
His birth family was complicated. On his first day back home, Yu Tinglan casually read the housekeeper's thoughts:
[The eldest young master told me to throw the second young master's birthday gift into the garbage truck. It should be gone by now.]
Yu Tinglan made his way toward the backyard, gasping with every step. Coughing violently, he searched for the gift box.
His elders hurried after him, only to find him sitting on the ground in a daze, his drooping rabbit ears on display as he tearfully protested: "I only wanted to wish Grandpa good health and a long life. They even have to ruin a little wish like that?"
The plot was exposed, and his stepbrother was punished with a kneeling vigil in the ancestral hall.
Yu Tinglan brought him a meal with pebbles hidden in the food to visit him, and was promptly pushed down the stairs.
When Grandpa helped him up, Yu Tinglan held his wound and panted softly: "Brother just doesn't believe I'm an S-rank guide. He got too worked up. It isn't his fault..."
Everyone in the family stared at him. "S-rank?!"
With the position of family heir now in question, Yu Tinglan retreated to school to lie low.
He never expected that the big cat he'd casually fed was the spirit companion of Wen Yu, the only Dark Sentinel in the entire school.
"Just bribing a kitty who doesn't like me," Yu Tinglan said with a gentle smile, shaking the snacks. "Any other kitties or puppies want some?"
The fluffy animals immediately swarmed him, only to be scared off by the white tiger arching its back.
Before long, Yu Tinglan became the powerful and gentle Sentinel's ideal crush and received countless invitations to join teams for the comprehensive skills competition.
He chose only Wen Yu.
On the night his family fell apart, everyone thought his stepbrother had killed him out of jealousy.
Only Wen Yu came to his side and handed him a tube of special medicine. "A stab wound to the abdomen can easily kill you. Next time, don't stab yourself."
Yu Tinglan's pupils contracted. His voice weary and aggrieved, he said, "Student Wen, even if you hate me, don't frame the victim."
Wen Yu lifted his chin and replied calmly, "I mean, next time I'll help you."
