Coolheaded, wise heroine x fake playboy, real flirtatious and coquettish husband
A fantasy demon-hunting mystery
One-on-one romance, both leads' firsts. The blurb's point of view is misleading (highlighted: it's a smokescreen).
Demons ran rampant in Shengjing. The moment Yu Yinxi came down from the mountain, the old emperor had her take up her post.
A new official's first task was to start a fire.
But before the first spark could flare, it landed on the capital's most famous playboy.
They first met at Qinglang Workshop. Following the trail of a demon's aura, she found a private room. She lifted the red silk quilt, but the demon who should have been beneath it was nowhere to be seen. Instead, Chi Youjing had his arm around a woman in a thin robe.
Seeing her, Chi Youjing raised an eyebrow.
"What are you doing, my lady? Could it be that you, too, crave a warm bed beneath red silk curtains?"
Yu Yinxi withdrew her hand with a cold expression and said only,
"Indulging in lust in broad daylight is truly disgraceful."
Then she hurried away.
Yu Yinxi had thought she would never cross paths with Chi Youjing again. Unexpectedly, he appeared out of nowhere as her colleague.
At first, Yu Yinxi thought it was nice to be born into a prestigious family. With family influence, you could land a good position.
She didn't expect a playboy to work diligently. She only hoped he wouldn't cause trouble.
As expected, this man was completely different from what she thought!
When they went to hunt demons and investigate cases, he hid behind her.
"Lord Xi, I'm so scared!"
When he fell out with a colleague, all he said was,
"So-and-so is awful. Unlike me, I only know how to care for you, Lord Xi."
When he had to leave the Demon-Hunting Bureau for some reason, he was reluctant to go and spoke as if they had sworn eternal love.
"Don't worry, Lord Xi. I'll keep waiting for you to come back!"
Yu Yinxi tightened her grip on her sword.
Looking at this man...
Could he have been possessed by a demon?
Yu Yinxi thought that when she returned to the capital, she would make sure to drive that demon out of him.
But she had not expected what would happen after she returned to the capital.
Daylight shone brightly outside the window. Chi Youjing pressed Yu Yinxi against the corner of a desk. She panted softly and turned aside from his delicate kisses, forcing out the words with difficulty: "We mustn't indulge in lust in broad daylight."
But he took her hand and gently tugged at her sash. Soft, close-set kisses fell against her ear. "My lady, do you like it?"
He guided her trembling hand to loosen his sash. Her fingertips brushed his skin, hot enough to make her pull back in a start.
"My lady, I belong to you..."
Yu Yinxi had thought Chi Youjing was a frail, spoiled young lord.
But during one demon hunt, she watched with her own eyes as he drove a dagger stiffly into a demon's head, laughing with cruel abandon.
When he noticed her, the dagger clattered to the ground. He ran to her and clung to her shoulder.
"My lady, that demon was so scary."
Yu Yinxi: ...Fine. If you say it was scary, then it was scary.
