On one side lie a bright future and a promising career.
On the other, old grudges that are impossible to untangle.
Zhaotang stands at a crossroads in her life, torn between reason and emotion, unsure which path to take...
The young man finally learned everything. His pupils trembled, his head buzzed, and his hands clenched tight. With only a shred of reason left, he held back his fury, shut his eyes, and refused to look at her.
The oppressive silence made the room feel cramped. Even their breathing seemed audible.
Time slipped by, second by second.
After a long while, he slowly spoke, as if resigned to his fate.
"So..."
His Adam's apple bobbed. His expression was grim, but he secretly held on to a sliver of hope. "You'd planned it all from the very beginning, hadn't you?"
"I'm sorry." Zhaotang lowered her head.
"Everything... all of it..."
"Was it all a lie?"
"Even... you..." His voice was hoarse. Zhaotang didn't dare look at him. Whether she was choking back sobs or simply disappointed, she kept her head down and said nothing, standing quietly and accepting it all.
He gave a bitter, defeated smile. The fluttering, elation, panic, and indescribable happiness he had felt because of her now seemed like a joke, like a slap across the face.
"You win..." He strode away.
He slammed the door shut, and the bang struck the depths of Zhaotang's heart. She raised a hand to the wall, unable to hide her despondency.
At last,
at last...
It was over...
