Yan Shian, twenty-six, holds a PhD in engineering and specializes in artificial intelligence and robot control. Her life philosophy is simple: if a machine can do it, she absolutely won't do it herself.
Unfortunately, marriage isn't something a machine can handle.
Yan's mother issues her final ultimatum: enter an arranged marriage or lose all of the Yan family's financial support for her lab. It's not a discussion, just a notification.
Yan Shian has no choice but to agree.
Her intended bride is an actress, lovely and kind, but she injured her leg a few months ago and can't stand for now.
Yan Shian: Whatever. As long as the funding comes through and the lab keeps running, it doesn't matter who my marriage partner is, what she looks like, or whether her leg works. Those are secondary parameters and won't affect the final output.
The wedding is held at the Yan family's old estate. It's a lavish affair, with guests filling the venue. The only person missing is the bride, Yan Shian.
The auspicious hour arrives. The officiant is waiting for the two brides to exchange rings, and Yan's mother is frantic. She calls Yan to hurry her along.
Yan Shian: Right now? I can't. I've still got a bug I haven't fixed. Let System go in my place. I've calibrated its appearance and movements, so it can handle the basic ceremony. I'll monitor the code from backstage and come over when the wedding's finished.
Yan's mother faints on the spot.
Just as the situation seems impossible to salvage, the bride says good-naturedly, "It's all right. Let's continue the wedding!"

Teacher Tan Qianyin rose to fame at a young age. Her dance blended classical and modern styles, balancing strength and grace to create a style all her own. Onstage, her eyes sparkled with life, and every frown and smile was naturally alluring.
Her expressive movement was once included in the national dance curriculum, earning her the admiration of thousands.
Yet this dance prodigy abruptly withdrew on the eve of the much-anticipated performance of National Elegance.
The news dominated the trending charts for three days.
Haters accused her of being a diva, the media peddled rumors, and her fans begged her to explain.
Tan Qianyin and her team remained silent.
A few months later, wearing a wedding dress and sitting in a wheelchair, she appeared at the wedding of Yan Shian, the youngest daughter of the wealthy Yan family.
Bonus scene:
Three months after the wedding, Yan Shian installed a fully automated navigation system on Tan Qianyin's wheelchair.
"Enter a destination by voice, and it automatically plans the best route. The obstacle-detection sensitivity is set to maximum, and it compensates for weight shifts on slopes." Yan Shian crouched beside the wheelchair, unable to hide her pride. "It's better than anything on the market."
Tan Qianyin looked down at her.
Her new wife was wearing an old sweatshirt, her hair casually loose, and the blue-light-blocking glasses she only took off in the lab perched on her nose. She was wholly absorbed in calibrating the sensors on the wheelchair's armrest.
"Yan Shian."
"Mm?"
"Don't you think what I'm actually missing isn't a smart sensor?"
Yan Shian looked up and blinked behind her lenses. She thought seriously for two seconds. "Then what are you missing? I'll make it for you."
Tan Qianyin watched her for a few seconds, then suddenly reached out, took off her glasses, and leaned in to place a feather-light kiss on her lips.
"I'm missing a wife who'll push my wheelchair, not a driver who knows how to operate one."
Yan Shian's face turned red from the base of her neck all the way to her ears.
"...Th-then I can push it, too."
