A Kiss in the Palm

The first time Yu Song met Li Huaiyu, he was sitting in a car in a perfectly tailored suit, the window half lowered. A pair of gold-rimmed glasses perched on his nose, and his features looked so much like the departed love of her life.

Yu Song stared, her heart pounding. She approached him just to get another look at his face.

But no one knew how crazy and twisted he was once he took off his glasses.

The longer she knew him, the more she realized Li Huaiyu had an overwhelming possessive streak, nothing like the aloof, refined image he showed the world.

When she asked to break up, he rejected her outright. Wherever she fled, he would relentlessly track her down.

Yu Song could take no more. "What will it take for you to let me go?"

"In your dreams." He lowered his head, his breath brushing her ear. "Unless I die."

Yu Song gritted her teeth. "I'll have nightmares if I see you."

Li Huaiyu gave a laugh, though there was no warmth in his eyes. He lifted her chin, forcing her to look at him.

"Then look at me a few more times. You'll get used to it."

It took Yu Song several years to escape him.

That day, rain poured down in sheets. A servant entered Li Huaiyu's room. Bottles of liquor lay scattered across the floor. He sat on the edge of the bed with his head bowed, his features hidden in shadow.

Li Huaiyu suddenly spoke, his voice low and hoarse.

"Am I really that stupid...?"

The servant froze. "How could you be? You..."

"Then why have I been fooled by the same woman so many times, and still chosen to believe her?"

A long silence fell.

"Maybe I really am stupid. To think..." He gave a cold, mocking laugh, his voice trembling slightly.

"That she would love me."
