A fortune-teller said Lin Yue would soon meet her destined match.
A sunny, cheerful, elegant golden retriever of a guy with a scholarly air.
Lin Yue flatly denied it.
No way. Absolutely no way.
She was going to spend her life with novels, games, and papers. Romance? Not happening!
It had never been on her life's schedule, not for a moment!
The fortune-teller said, "Don't be so stubborn."
If love could be explained by common sense, why would we call it "falling in love"?
Because love comes out of nowhere and makes no sense.
Lin Yue still firmly believed it was impossible.
She was a homebody, and she was afraid of men.
She couldn't imagine what it would take to get her out of her dorm and into the path of a sunny golden retriever.
Until her advisor asked her to go meet the new incoming first-year graduate student.
Her junior was 185 centimeters tall, warm and outgoing, considerate, and charming.
Lin Yue added him on WeChat, and moments later she received a message.
[Senior, want to go out for a meal this weekend?]
Her junior was warm and outgoing, but maybe a little too warm and outgoing for a homebody who liked to stay in her own territory.
So Lin Yue politely declined.
While complaining to a friend about her new junior, Lin Yue said that although he was a nepotism hire, his laundry detergent smelled pretty good, and she planned to ask what brand it was.
Her friend slapped her forehead. "It's over, Lin Yue. You're done for. You're falling in love. Taking an interest in a man is the beginning of misery."
Lin Yue denied it three times: "No. I didn't. Don't make things up."
Later, the elegant golden retriever rested his head on her shoulder and blinked at her, asking softly, "Senior, am I not good enough?"
Lin Yue impatiently swatted his doggy head away. "You're so annoying."
The golden retriever snuggled up to her again. "Hehe."
Lin Yue closed her eyes.
Fine. He's actually pretty great.

Reading guide:
There'll be the hard-knock daily life of grad students, as well as some references to Jian Wang 3. The game won't take up much of the story, and I'll explain things in the author's notes.
The author is doing fieldwork and doesn't have much time to write updates. I'll probably update once a week so I can build up a larger backlog.
20260417: I changed the cover! It's a template cover, sob. Once I have money, I'll commission a custom one!
