In the summer before her second year of high school, in 2009, Ning Xi moves to the small town where her mother lives. By chance, she runs into a schoolmate she has only seen a few times at school.
She is minding her mother’s little shop when the schoolmate comes in, silently picks out a few things, silently hands her a banknote, then immediately walks away in silence.
A little bewildered, Ning Xi clutches the change and runs outside to call after her. But no matter how many times she calls, the schoolmate keeps striding forward without reacting.
Ning Xi looks down at the money, puzzled. So cold, huh?
When they run into each other again later, Ning Xi gives her a few suspicious looks and gets only a blank stare in return.
Does a silent world have to be tragic and helpless?
For the first time, Ji Ting stands still and gazes at the girl in the distance, a girl even the sunlight seems to adore. Her ears have grown so unaccustomed to sound that they can barely take in anything else.
The only thing that can remain here is Ning Xi’s laughter.
One day, Ji Ting says she is about to lose her hearing.
Ning Xi hears this, turns around as she walks ahead, and smiles.
