Historian Shen Mu closed her eyes, opened them, and discovered she had transmigrated.
The good news: She had become a princess.
The bad news: Her kingdom had fallen.
The dynasty she'd transmigrated into was the very era of upheaval between Liang and Chu that Shen Mu had spent years studying.
The land was in chaos, divided among rival warlords. Hunted and with nowhere left to turn, Shen Mu was so hungry her front and back nearly touched. With no other choice, she disguised herself as a man and tried to join Gu Yunshu's peasant rebel army.
Gu Yunshu: “Why do you want to enlist?”
Shen Mu: “I want enough to eat.”
Gu Yunshu looked at Shen Mu. The kid was so thin and small that a gust of wind could knock him over. Without a hint of mercy, he said, “I'm recruiting soldiers to fight, not to feed freeloaders.”
Later, after Gu Yunshu ascended the throne, he watched Shen Mu wolf down her food with a smile.
Shen Mu: “What are you looking at? Never seen someone eat before?”
Gu Yunshu smiled. “Never seen someone who can fight and eat like you.”
A gentle, refined, and devious woman paired with an unruly, cunning man.
