A Field Guide to Terrifying Bosses

[A heads-up: Lovecraftian elements, cultivation, the supernatural, and an infinite-flow setting. Whether it's scary depends on the reader.

The System isn't a System in the traditional sense. This will be explained later.]

At the beginning of 1980, an archaeological team accidentally discovered a massive site buried deep underground.

But the site appeared for only a brief moment before disappearing along with the archaeologists who had gone down to investigate, leaving behind a string of ancient, indecipherable writing.

The remaining team members fled in a panic. Before long, they successfully deciphered the text:

Disasters shall ravage the world.

Overnight, food production plummeted around the world. Torrential rain fell for a month, and tsunamis swept away several buildings...

Five years later, the disasters suddenly vanished, and life gradually returned to normal.

That is, until Shen Shiying heard an old woman in Shunran Village say, "In 2020, the disasters will return."

Shen Shiying was born under an unusual fate. Ghosts and monsters had been drawn to him since childhood, and he was constantly ill. After finally graduating from university and finding a job, he was haunted by a water ghost. He had no idea what to do.

It wasn't until one day that Shen Shiying learned a ghost could kill another ghost that he deliberately moved into a haunted building.

The outcome did not disappoint him. The water ghost was twisted into a pretzel and died a horrible death outside his door the next day. Then he was told that he would be next.

Having gotten himself into an even bigger mess, Shen Shiying had no choice but to quit his job and embark on the path of using ghosts to fight ghosts.

Following the advice of an expert who lived in the same building, he went to Shunran Village.

As soon as he stepped inside, a strange sound rang in his ears. Before he could listen closely, something resembling a game interface appeared before his eyes, with two lines of large black text:

[Instance: Shunran Village]

[Instance Boss: ???]

Below them was a line of red text:

[This instance's Boss is far too powerful!!!]

Shen Shiying's heart sank.

This was bad.

[Instance One: Shunran Village] - Complete

This year, it was his turn.

So they dug out his eyes and brought them back to the village.

[Instance Two: Apartments in the Woods] - In development

An abandoned apartment building in the woods.

Its attractions include a cute pink slide, smiling mannequins, and people who have come back from the dead.

The ten people who arrive here will die in different ways.

Find the murderer and put an end to his crimes.

Other instances to be determined.
