Secrets Hidden in the Evening Breeze

The flutter of a seventeen-year-old heart was as quiet as a summer evening breeze.

I hid all my joy, nervousness, and careful hopes in the evening wind that swept across the sports field.

It brushed past your hair and embraced you for me, but never dared let you know.

This unrequited love, known to no one, was the grandest and quietest secret of my youth.

I hid the feelings I carried through my youth, daring to tell them only to the evening breeze.

I watched you shine in the crowd, watched you laugh and chat with others,

while I always stood in the breeze, gazing from afar, too afraid to come closer.

Then summer ended, and we went our separate ways.

You still don’t know that someone once tucked you into every flutter of their heart and every sigh.

A sidelong glance over a desk, a chance encounter in the hallway, watching you leave after school.

I never told anyone that I liked you. I entrusted it all to the evening breeze.

The wind blew through several seasons, but in the end, my feelings remained a secret.
