His cool lips brush the back of Zhou Zhuo's neck, and Zhou Zhuo stiffens all over. His heart is beating far too fast.
Niveous hears it. Tilting his head, he looks at Zhou Zhuo. "Your heart is beating fast."
"It won't if you stay farther away from me."
"Why?"

His friends all say there's something off about Niveous.
Zhou Zhuo smiles and raises an eyebrow. "What's off about him?"
His friends can't put it into words.

The closer he gets to Niveous, the more excited he becomes.
It feels a lot like walking a tightrope, with an abyss below, but Zhou Zhuo can't stop.

Until one day, Zhou Zhuo comes home early.
There's a light on in the bathroom, the sound of running water, and some... sticky, squelching noises.
He opens the door. Niveous is standing in front of the mirror.
His long hair, reaching to his waist, is soaked and plastered against his body. His eyes are red, and so are the corners of his mouth.
Blood runs down his chin and drips into the hollow of his collarbone.
Following the blood with his eyes, Zhou Zhuo sees Niveous holding a heart in his hands. It's red, and still beating.
The veins on it spread like a dense mass of tree roots, throbbing again and again.
At last, Zhou Zhuo sees the secret in the painting.
But Niveous is staring straight at him through the mirror, wearing a bloodthirsty smile. "What did you see?"
Zhou Zhuo's mind is screaming. His instinct for survival tells him to run, to leave this place right now.
But Zhou Zhuo only walks over. He hears himself say, "I saw you eating without sharing."

That night, Niveous slips into Zhou Zhuo's bed.
His icy body presses against Zhou Zhuo, sharp teeth drawing close to his heart.
"Zhou Zhuo," he says, his voice cool as well. "Are you afraid of me?"
