Wooden Girl x Peacock Boy (Title is tentative; this title isn't very convenient for ranking)
Shi Chen is forced to take leave due to depression and heads to a seaside town to clear his mind. There, he meets Jiang Ying, who is training in seclusion.
He thinks he'll once again see a girl swooning over his charms, but Jiang Ying looks at him as if he's just a rock by the roadside.
He begins showing off on purpose, more or less: playing guitar beside her, singing to the sea breeze, even dancing under the moonlight.
Jiang Ying ignores all of it. Her only response is, "You're disturbing me."
Later, he sits beside her writing songs while she plays training matches. Sometimes, when he looks up after getting tired of writing, he finds she's turned the air conditioning up by two degrees without him noticing.
He doesn't call her out.
"Do you love me?" he asks.
Without looking up, she replies, "Mm-hm."
"What does 'mm-hm' mean?"
"It means mm-hm."
Three years after their breakup, Jiang Ying becomes a three-time league champion.
Shi Chen returns too, with a new album sweeping the music scene. He's still that dazzling superstar.
They meet again at a cross-industry awards gala.
He stands on the stage receiving an award, while she sits among the guests.
Their eyes meet, but neither reacts, as if they were strangers.
In the backstage corridor, Shi Chen corners her against the wall.
"Jiang Ying, do you know how awful you're being? I never agreed to break up. You don't want me anymore?" As he speaks, he burrows into her arms again.
"..."
He still smells the same. Jiang Ying doesn't push him away.
"But I still like you."
"Mm-hm."
"Can't you use a different word?"
She plants a kiss on his cheek. "I like you too."
