Timid yet capable corporate drone who transmigrates into a book x seemingly patriarchal, actually clingy young heir
Liu Can doesn't know why the male lead in the book she transmigrated into is so different from the one in the original story.
At their first meeting, he sees through her disguise as an unfavored concubine-born daughter who was married off in place of someone else. He makes her kneel in the ancestral hall on her wedding night, looking at her as if she were an object that shouldn't exist.
Wasn't this supposed to be a sweet romance?
Why did she witness with her own eyes a child being pinned to the blue-brick floor by his elders and beaten until his spine was broken, just for knocking over a lamp of oil in the ancestral hall, while everyone around them applauded the father for being "strict in raising his child"?
The original story was all about the hero and heroine, with barely any information about the outside world. The places it had left unwritten had apparently grown twisted flesh and blood of their own, along with rules that devoured people.
She had no choice but to orbit the male lead, relying on her knowledge of the plot and the patience she'd built up as a corporate drone to wait on him like a boss. That was the only way she barely managed to stay alive.
The male lead, Xie Fushen, was more terrifying than any boss she'd ever had.
Though still young, he seemed like the century-old Duke of Wei's mansion had taken human form: ancient, imposing, and untouchable. When his eyes were lowered and he said nothing, the shadows all around him seemed to gather. When he looked up, those shadows seemed to obey his command, quietly prostrating themselves at his feet. His eyes were so clear they reflected the clouds.
Liu Can had no time to investigate why Xie Fushen hated her so much. Once she found a way out, she promptly wrote a divorce letter.
Xie Fushen, who was always cold toward her, suddenly turned on her. He clutched her sleeve tightly and said through gritted teeth, "Liu Zhaozhi, if all you want is my life, then have it. Just wait until I'm dead before you leave."
Xie Fushen, heir to the Duke of Wei, had the looks of an immortal and the talent of a god of war. He possessed every good thing in the world.
That is, until his wedding day.
With guests filling the hall and red candles shining brightly, Xie Fushen suddenly blacked out and collapsed.
When he awoke, he learned that he was merely a character in a storybook. Everything he had been proud of was there only to make a certain woman shine brighter, and in the end, he would die without a complete corpse for her sake.
And this woman was the bride whose veil he had yet to lift.
He absolutely could not let himself meet the same fate as in the book.
From then on, he watched coldly from the sidelines.
She really did behave just as the storybook said. Every day, she came to curry favor with him. Even when she was so tired she could barely keep her eyes open, she still forced herself to get up early and bring him soup. She even put on an act of being delicate and fragile, speaking to him in a soft, high-pitched voice, only to turn around and clutch her chest while rolling her eyes.
She was clearly terrified of him, yet she came to see him every day, grinning from ear to ear.
...It was rather interesting.
That day, after scribbling out a divorce letter, she sat alone for a long time. At last, she muttered quietly, "I can't just think of you as a character on a page, and I don't want you to die. You... sigh, I'll think of another way to get back."
"My wife, you cannot leave me." Xie Fushen smiled, his eyes sparkling. The image of himself dying without a complete corpse had never been clearer in his mind, yet he no longer resisted. He simply said softly, "My wife, save me!"
TIPS: 1. Both leads are each other's first and only, happy ending. In the early stages, he's a patriarchal lord and she's a patient subordinate; later, the clingy puppy side bursts out, bringing plenty of sweetness.
