Dreams are the resentment of the dead.
Dream Chainers wield soul necklaces to capture dream spirits and protect the boundary between reality and dreams. Qing Yuan is the Dream Bureau's finest Dream Chainer, with a one-hundred-percent mission success rate, until she accepts a mission classified as Grade B.
In an abandoned textile mill, three victims are swallowed by the same dream. Hundreds of Dream Chainers' faces cover the wax walls. In a mirrored room sits a man who died one hundred and twenty days ago. The dream is evolving, building, learning. It is learning not only to create dreams, but to become human.
When the dream spirit bursts from its Host, it has Qing Yuan's face. It leans against her knees like a child seeking its mother's warmth.
A voice comes from the pendant:
"Mom."
Sixty years ago, the founder of the Dream Bureau ventured deep into a dream and never returned. She left a part of herself behind, waiting in the dream dimension for sixty years.
It wasn't waiting for her to return.
It was waiting for her to have a reason not to.
She is the dream itself, yet chooses to become human.
