Because I rushed to meet the deadline for the new-author rankings after the book was accepted, I wrote this story in a hurry. Later on, I ran short of inspiration, but I didn't want to give it a slapdash ending. I'll stop updating here and release the complete story all at once in the future.
“I thought I could face whatever came my way in this life, never guessing that one person would leave me utterly defenseless.”

That year in the capital, spring breezes filled the air, and the hoofbeats of horses rang briskly down the streets.
At just twenty, Pei Xun won third place in the palace examinations. He seemed poised to rise swiftly through the ranks, but after offending the notorious Princess Chen Wan, he was sent away to serve as an official in the provinces.
From then on, everyone knew that Pei, the Third Place Scholar, and the princess were mortal enemies.
Later, on Chen Wan's seventeenth birthday, she received a gift from the Pei household.
-
For twenty-three years, Pei Xun had been cold and uncaring, like a mound of snow on Cang Mountain that never melted.
Until one day, at a palace banquet, the princess, with whom he had an old grudge, asked to meet him.
In a deserted palace, the woman spoke with honeyed words, filling her mouth with talk of benevolence and morality. After listening, Pei Xun sneered inwardly, almost laughing aloud.
He now had another reason to hate her: she was utterly hypocritical.
Not long afterward, a tale began making the rounds in the teahouses of the capital.
The story of the princess meeting the handsome young scholar by night caused an uproar.

Both are pure, 1v1
A resilient princess who plays dumb while outsmarting everyone VS a devoted, powerful official, a flower atop a lofty peak
An alternate ancient setting, with no historical dynasty as a reference
Blurb for the next book, "Spring's Bough":
A rising star in finance VS a surgeon

Ten years after graduation, their long-silent high school class chat suddenly came alive with plans for a reunion.
Under the dim, wavering lights of the KTV room, someone dredged up an old story: back in the day, their balding homeroom teacher had appointed the Chinese class representative to make the whole class memorize their texts, but Meng Zhi had made an exception for Zhou Shiyue.
At once, everyone's curious, appraising glances shifted between the two people at the center of the story.
Zhou Shiyue instinctively looked toward Meng Zhi, sitting across the diagonal of the sofa.
The woman's red lips parted. Her voice, however, was perfectly calm. “Maybe I slept too little in high school, and my hormones were out of balance.”
-
Meng Zhi's life was busy. She had no time to keep looking back.
The reunion's little episode wasn't even worth bringing up over lunch.
That is, until she finished an emergency surgery in the middle of the night and found a patient with refined features waiting in the consultation room.
Zhou Shiyue, who had spent all three years of high school looking at her coldly, asked if she would marry him.
-
I still admire you, but I no longer want to stand by your side.
-
Zhou Shiyue had always been calm and meticulous. He hated anything emotional and believed that every problem in the world had a logical solution.
That was, until the graduation reunion, when he looked into a pair of clear, bright eyes.
-
After they married, Meng Zhi protested Zhou Shiyue's habit of going back on his word.
“Zhou Shiyue, get out. This is my room.”
“Is that so?” The man didn't bat an eye. “I don't remember the prenuptial agreement saying we couldn't share a room.”
