After transmigrating from the apocalypse, where she was a master of psychic arts, into the future as the fugitive heir to a family of "dark arts," Yun Xici only wants to retire and enjoy a quiet life. She plans to go to school and work like everyone else, living as an ordinary person and taking life as it comes.
The trouble is, her world is a future version of The Truman Show. The friendly neighbor who drops by for meals every day is secretly keeping tabs on her. Her longtime friend, who goes to school with her, secretly sends reports about her. Even her homeroom teacher privately encourages her to shoulder the banner of vengeance for the Psychic Sect. Yun Xici realizes that the only person who is truly family is the adoptive father she's depended on for survival.
It's just that her father seems to have realized she's not the original person. Their relationship is somewhere between close and distant. Every day, her father gazes at her expectantly, hoping she'll awaken her psychic power and urging her to restore the Psychic Sect. Yun Xici answers with righteous conviction, but secretly decides to make a quick escape by going on to university through her graduation livestream.
This is six hundred years after the apocalypse. People with supernatural abilities have become practitioners, vital energy has transformed into the power of the five elements, and technology has advanced at a breakneck pace. The future world is flourishing, but beneath the surface, conglomerates and warlords conceal one crisis after another.
Practitioners of the five elements have become the world's mainstream, while non-elemental abilities like psychic power have gradually faded into obscurity. Ten years ago, a prophecy declaring, "The Pearl's chosen one will bring the end of all beings," led to the overnight destruction of the secluded Psychic Sect, whose heirloom Pearl held the power to unite all energies. Psychic energy became a demonic power spoken of only in whispers.
Yun Xici had assumed the vigorous psychic power inside her had come with her from her previous life. To save her own skin, she'd always been a model student at school, seemingly showing no signs of awakening her vital energy. Her adoptive father's painstaking efforts and earnest advice went in one ear and out the other as she smiled brightly.
Saving the world was something she'd already done in her previous life. In this life, she only wanted to live for herself.
But as she neared graduation at eighteen, she suddenly discovered that she might have been born into this world with her memories erased, and that she had a twin brother.
Was her real father an actual double agent, staging one spy-versus-spy act after another?
More importantly, was the Pearl coveted by all the various factions... inside her?
The romance, in brief:
In her previous life, Yun Xici found a newborn puppy. They depended on each other through years of scraping by in the apocalypse. It wasn't until the puppy grew more and more ferocious that she belatedly realized she'd apparently raised a wolf...?
Deep in the danger zone, at the burial ground, the Pearl burst into the world and drew in people from every faction, each scrambling to seize it. Betrayed and on the brink of death, Yun Xici looked at the Pearl in her palm, then took one last glance at the old wolf rushing toward her. She poured all her psychic energy into the Pearl, said to be beyond the laws of Heaven and Earth, wishing only for her little dog to live well.
She never expected this to bring a great boon to the beasts, allowing the wolf to take human form and be reborn. Sealed away in the burial ground for a hundred years, he finally waited, beneath his dejected, withered exterior, for his master to arrive at last.
The smiling but cold-hearted powerhouse heroine vs. the ice-cold but warm-hearted puppy hero.
I'm working on the worldbuilding and outline, so the blurb may continue to be updated. Stay tuned!
Posting this early, and shamelessly asking for a favorite...
