Synopsis
She was a blade of grass, growing at the foot of the mountain where an immortal's Taoist temple stood.
After three hundred years of listening to sermons and teachings, she gained spiritual awareness and wanted to become human.
A weasel gave her an idea: possess a corpse.
There was one ready to hand: a girl who had just jumped into a lake. The soul reaper had only just taken her spirit, and her body was still warm.
She possessed it, and came back to life.
She got a name, Lin Jinyi, parents, and a home.
At her one-year-old celebration, a goddess came and asked her age. She answered, “Over three hundred.” Her parents were scared to death on the spot.
(The goddess brought them back to life, too.)
The goddess said, “Want to become my disciple? First, learn how to be human.”
Carrying a revolving lantern that ran off on its own, she climbed the mountain to seek the Tao.
On the way, she met a female ghost. The ghost tried to suck out her yang energy, but no matter how long she tried, she couldn't get any. This body had been dead to begin with.
The ghost thought she was amusing and decided to follow her.
At the Taoist temple entrance, two young disciples chased her away, accusing her of stealing.
She offered the lantern as proof. The lantern turned around and smacked her back down to the foot of the mountain.
She slapped the lantern. It hit her right in the face.
The female ghost appeared again and pointed out a direction. There was a dog hole in the corner of the wall.
She crawled in. Someone was stuck inside, so she gave them a kick, and they went through.
His name was Yao Xingyan. He looked righteous and upright, and was an immortal's junior disciple. She blackmailed him over the fact that he had crawled through a dog hole and made him help her.
When the goddess returned, she rushed forward and knelt, begging to be accepted as a disciple.
The goddess asked what books she had read. She said she had read plenty. Everyone burst out laughing.
The goddess asked how she had arrived. She said she had walked, and had nearly rubbed a layer of skin off her feet.
The goddess asked what had happened on the way. She said she had met a female ghost and been hit by a lantern.
After listening, the goddess spoke a few words softly.
She was accepted into the temple and started out as a young disciple.
A hundred years later, she became a Taoist disciple.
The spirits gave her a nickname: the Aquatic Grass Taoist Disciple Who Never Lets a Demon Live Past the Night. But because she was often with Yao Xingyan, they also started calling them the Male and Female Immortal Fiends.
But no one knew that the original owner of this body was waiting in the underworld to come back...
