A boy falls from the sky. His origins are unknown, and so is his identity. Is he a blessing or a curse?
At first, Jiang Ruyue only wanted to learn where the boy came from, so she signed a master-servant agreement with him. But later she realized he was nothing but a helpless pretty face, no threat to her at all.
Jiang Ruyue's position was simple: As long as he fulfilled his duties during the term of their agreement, they could each go their own way afterward.
But a bloodstained letter from her mentor ended their relationship before she could make good on that plan. An unexpected crisis left her life hanging by a thread.
Jiang Ruyue cared deeply for her mentor and was willing to travel any distance to save him from danger. With the agreement now void, she couldn't drag an innocent person into the mess, so she coldly sent the boy away.
No matter how desperately the boy begged, she remained unmoved. But the tears welling in his palm made her usually calm eyes falter.
She didn't understand. She had set him free, so why was he in such agony?
Was the sorrow in his eyes a reproach? Was he blaming her?
From then on, whenever she dreamed at night, she would wake at the sight of those mournful, pitiful eyes. She didn't know why and didn't dare look too closely, but it became a thorn in her heart.
Three years passed. On a snowy day, the boy gazed at the moon in the capital.
He had never blamed her for sending him away. He bore her no resentment. He was only afraid that she was alone in the snow and wind.
When he first met Jiang Ruyue, she seemed otherworldly, her expression cool and aloof. He was a little afraid of her.
She bore no trace of having been constrained by rules. She was so free, so passionate, and so dazzling that he felt ashamed of himself.
From that moment on, the boy's heart was lost to her. He humbly begged for a ray of her moonlight to shine on him, even if only a little.
But later, his moon no longer wanted him.
He stumbled through the world, seeking to reclaim his dignity, all for the chance to see his moon once more.
He had lost so much. He had no family. She was the only person tying him to this world.
She put her mentor first. He put her first.
"Why are you so stubborn?"
"Because I'm my master's little dog."
