Dark Heart

Will someone step in to punish crimes that go unpunished? Will the wicked people we despise ever get what they deserve?

Though her family was still alive, Lin Che unexpectedly discovered that she had no connection to them at all. This bizarre incident marked the beginning of a series of strange events that came her way.

What secrets could someone who never socialized and kept others at a distance be hiding? She was seen silently dealing with a villain. Does that mean she is a good person? But... one day, the blade she had thought was being used to uphold justice was pointed at an innocent person's stomach.

Right and wrong, good and evil: who can really say which is which?

No one could see through Lin Che's actions. Who could keep in check a loner with supernatural powers whose loyalties were unknown? All things in the world exist in balance, and even someone as formidable as Lin Che had a weakness: Xu Heng, the person bound to her by a contract, who knew her secret.

Xu Heng was the only person who could witness Lin Che in action and approach her during the period when she suffered the backlash afterward. He was kind to everyone and universally liked, yet no one ever got close to his heart. At first, he thought the whole thing was absurd: a young girl killing people without any motive, going on a string of murders, even specifically targeting people who had died by accident. Seeing images of Lin Che acting in his mind, Xu Heng told himself that work stress was getting to him and he needed to see a doctor.

But there was no way the weak could resist the strong. Since they had both been chosen, they were bound to meet. So these two complete strangers were inexplicably forced together, then forced to resolve a series of injustices that had no real resolution.

Along the way, Xu Heng found himself drawn to Lin Che. How could someone like her exist? She could deal with scoundrels who could not be brought to justice, and use her supernatural abilities to help victims in other timelines escape their tormentors, allowing the innocent to continue their lives in other worlds.

Everything seemed to be moving in a better direction, but Lin Che began to give herself over to depravity, repeating the crimes of the villains she had once killed with her own hands. After witnessing her kill innocent people several times, Xu Heng could no longer find any excuse for her. How had Lin Che become the very person he had once despised most?

The two were fated to restrain each other, one waxing as the other waned, one dying as the other lived.

Was there no way to solve this inescapable deadlock? Did they have no choice but to watch the ending arrive?

No one holds an absolute monopoly on fairness, or can say for certain who is righteous and who is evil.
