The Slave and the Mistress

You arrive in ancient Persia two thousand years ago, in the age of slavery.

You possess a special ability: a single touch can heal any injury or cure any chronic illness.

You keep your power under wraps, and soon establish yourself here as a renowned physician, earning widespread respect.

You buy a slave.

You discover that no matter how you treat him, he remains utterly devoted to you. You can whip him one moment, and the next he's willing to die for you.

You don't understand. How can anyone be like this?

You are clearly kind and powerful, and have granted him his freedom, yet he still kneels at your feet in fear.
