In 1995, Zhu Yue followed his parents out of the mountains of Zhaotong and took down new roots in a stone house in Dongchuan. The pomegranate tree behind the house bears witness to the family's hardships: the mother became ill due to overwork, the brother gave up his studies, and the sister struggled with the pressure of childbirth.
