"Will falling for a jerk ruin your life?"
"No, you just have to accept that he'll love lots and lots of people."
Lin Fanwu falls for a man, one whom lots and lots of people love. They first meet at his breakup with his ex. She witnesses the whole thing and assumes he's just playing the field, never giving anyone his heart.
But
If chasing him is just a game of love, couldn't she walk away with dignity when it's over?
She says, "You can call it off anytime. I won't ask why."
He says, "I'll be the referee in your game."
Zeng Yu does his best to play the "jerk" she calls him, like some kind of cosplay, indulging and humoring her, when all along, she was the only one he ever saw.
For a while, Lin Fanwu fantasizes that they might be in love. Then one day, the person in Zeng Yu's heart appears, and she realizes it was all just a game. She leaves without a word.
Everyone knows Zeng Yu has been dumped, and they weren't even official. He hides from her, afraid that someone as proud as he is might want revenge. Zeng Yu does want revenge: all the things he once dared not do, or couldn't bear to do, he pours into their days and nights of intoxicating passion.
He says, "The referee hasn't ruled you out of the game yet. How can you run away? Don't run again!"

In Zeng Yu's eyes,
when they were children, she was the bravest girl in Taiping Alley;
as an adult, she was a precious encounter amid millions of people.
No one expected that from the very start of the story, the person who wanted to be bound to Lin Fanwu for all eternity was him, all along.
The world is awash with color, its every corner scattered with starlight and gems,
but to me, she alone shines brightest.
*Both are virgins, and the feelings are mutual.
