Synopsis
1.
Yan Guiyi transmigrated into a book and, while fleeing for her life, happened to pick up a child.
At the time, the boy lay sprawled across a mountain of corpses, his arms and legs broken, his flesh torn open in a horrifying sight.
Under the overcast sky, a mass of ghost ferrymen surrounded him, waiting for him to breathe his last.
Unable to bear it, Yan Guiyi turned back and gathered him into her arms.
The instant she reached out, the System finally appeared, bringing two pieces of news:
The bad news: She had become the spoiled, domineering eldest daughter of Changwang Palace from the original story. Early on, she had tormented the villain in every way imaginable, and in the end her entire family was slaughtered, leaving her to wish she were dead.
The good news: She had arrived early. The story had not begun yet, and the villain in her arms was still a pitiful, beautiful boy who had suffered terribly.
Yan Guiyi: I think there's still time to save this story...
At first, Yu Junlian did not understand human nature. He curled up in a corner, trembling, biting and tearing at his own body until he was covered in blood.
Again and again, Yan Guiyi reached out and pulled him back. She taught him to read and write, and to practice magic.
Knowing he feared the cold and the dark, Yan Guiyi found him the only Netherworld Lamp in existence, keeping him company through countless long nights.
Little by little, the boy stopped guarding himself at every turn and grew more and more dependent on her.
Yu Junlian rested his head in her lap every day, like a well-behaved puppy, while desire as vast as the sky lay repressed in his eyes.
He said, "Master, can we stay together like this for the rest of our lives?"
Then Yu Junlian's demonic identity was exposed, and the immortal sects pointed their swords at Changwang Palace, surrounding it so completely that no one could get through.
The immortal leading them shouted that there were two choices:
Either hand him over to be executed,
or Yan Guiyi could end her own life, and they would spare Yu Junlian. After all, a disciple's failings were the master's neglect.
Without hesitation, Yan Guiyi turned and pushed Yu Junlian away.
It would be such a waste if the disciple she'd worked so hard to raise died.
A rain of swords fell upon her, and the girl's frail body crashed to the ground.
"My disciple, I will go on ahead..."
Her spirit scattered in an instant. As her consciousness blurred, she thought she heard the boy's agonized scream.
2.
Yu Junlian was born a demon. He endured every hardship and every scornful look.
In the sixteen years of his bleak life, at last a ray of light appeared.
He wanted nothing more than to cut out his heart and offer it to Yan Guiyi, just so she might show him a little more affection and pity his insecurity. He stubbornly hoped that he alone would exist in her eyes.
She said, "There is still so much beauty in this world. I'll go see it all with you."
If his master wanted it, he could pretend to be a model disciple of the immortal sects for the rest of his life.
But Yan Guiyi abandoned him without mercy.
Even after he knocked his forehead bloody, begging the immortals to save her, he could not win back even a fragment of her soul.
3.
When Yan Guiyi opened her eyes again, thirty thousand years had passed.
She heard that Yu Junlian had ascended to godhood, and was filled with complicated emotions and immense relief.
She waited in peace for the System to take her home, never expecting Yu Junlian to find her first.
He held out his hand, smiling tenderly and affectionately as tears fell first. "Master, come. Come home with me."
Yan Guiyi's vision went black, and she fainted. When she woke, she found herself bound from head to toe in chains, her waist and abdomen aching terribly.
Yu Junlian's warm lips rested against her shoulder as he murmured, gloomy and tender, "Since you picked me up, Master, we should be entangled with each other for all eternity."
4.
On the day Yan Guiyi died, the Floating Life Realm welcomed its first god.
The god had white hair, and reached out to catch a wisp of spiritual energy.
The memories in his sea of consciousness vanished bit by bit, leaving nothing but desolation.
In the dead of night, he would sometimes glimpse a girl holding a beggar in her arms.
She whispered softly, "Don't be afraid. I'll take you home."
Extra scene:
After Yan Guiyi was taken back, she was treated to the finest food and comforts. Each day, the only person she saw besides him was the male disciple who brought her meals.
Glad to have some peace and quiet, Yan Guiyi would sometimes chat with the disciple, and they gradually became familiar with each other.
One day, she suddenly realized the male disciple had become a female disciple.
Yu Junlian wrapped his arms around her from behind and buried his face against her neck. After kissing her clingily for a while, he said pitifully, "Master, I've gotten so thin lately."
The girl rolled her eyes and panted, "Where have you gotten thin?"
Yu Junlian kissed away the tears at the corner of her eye. "My heart has grown narrow."
...?
Yu Junlian held the girl on his lap, the corners of his eyes tinged with a strange flush. "Isn't having me enough for you, Master?"
