Making Light at the Fracture

Zhinan, a first-year architecture student, meets senior student Lu Jiayun on a rainy night, receives a laboratory key, and opens the door to a whole new world.

From finding a shared vision in designing the “cracks between cities,” to competing side by side in a national design contest, from redeveloping an abandoned railway corridor to meeting again in Boston, they sketch out their ideals between blueprints and reality, and discover their feelings for each other in the course of their everyday lives.

This is not only a story about two architecture students growing up, but also a search for connection, memory, and warmth. When an abandoned railway becomes a bond that mends a community, the overlooked wrinkles in people’s lives will finally be gently smoothed by professional passion and the glimmer of love.
