(Blurb written on February 13, 2026. To be revised.)
A new Kakushi has joined the Demon Slayer Corps.
He has no surname, only a simple given name.
His name is: Kanata.
His past is shrouded in mystery, yet, oddly enough, he answers every question.
"Is that a Nichirin Sword? Did you get it from the Swordsmith Village?"
Kanata: "I bought it."
"?"
"How old are you?"
Kanata: "About negative ninety."
"?"
His answers are a little strange, but at least he's easy to get along with.
Only Kyojuro, who brought Kanata back, can't figure out one thing: why won't he talk to me?
Senjuro: "Could it be because you're not Kanata's friend yet, Brother?"
I see!
Kyojuro suddenly understood.
So he started showing up around Kanata all the time.
-
Kanata is just an NPC.
In this world, where the ending is already set, all he has to do is complete the System's tasks and guide the story toward its destined conclusion.
Even if he wants to do something, the System holds him back. Just as he returned to the past twice, yet couldn't change a thing.
Getting to know someone destined to die is pointless.
He believes this without a doubt.
But lately, a fiery red figure keeps appearing at his side.
Wherever he goes, the other follows.
Even when he's staring blankly at the sky, the other has to come over and ask, "What are you looking at?"
What could he see?
He can see far more than anyone else: the plot of this world, everyone's future, the true nature of this world...
"You," Kanata replied carelessly.
Then the man stepped right into the center of his vision, blocking the System's densely packed messages.
Kyojuro smiled. "Now you're looking at me."
That radiant smile entered his pale blue eyes, so dazzling that he couldn't look away.
At the same time, the System displayed a new task:
[Bonus Task: Make a friend!]
[Task Reward: Return 3% closer to the original worldline]
?
This task went against everything he believed.
But...
Kanata stared at the reward.
Kanata struggled.
Kanata gave in.
Make a friend! Right now!
This won't be a very long story.
The reading guide is still under construction...
