Feng Xiaoqing, who dreams of becoming an investigative journalist, is transported into a xianxia novel about to be adapted for television. The story is a melodramatic romance about the Heavenly Emperor's two sons fighting over one woman. Feng Xiaoqing becomes a little snake demon who was once saved by the second male lead. At the request of the body's former owner, her mission is to save the beautiful but ill-fated second male lead from turning evil and destroying the world after his love goes unrequited.
Yet not long after Feng Xiaoqing arrives, the second male lead, Cang Yu, Water God, grabs her by the throat, the hand of fate itself, and lifts her off the ground like a chick, nearly choking her to death.
This second male lead is nothing like the gentle, moonlit figure he was supposed to be before his corruption. He's brimming with murderous intent, as if he'd already fallen into demonic cultivation.
The other man narrows his captivating peach-blossom eyes and smiles with wicked, bewitching charm:
"To be honest, this Lord has already died once..."
Facing this world-destroying villain who has fallen to the dark side ahead of schedule, Feng Xiaoqing feels like giving up and letting the first run end in tragedy. She's even come up with an epitaph for this reborn cheat: Cang Yu, Water God. He loved, he hated, he destroyed, but to his dying day, he was still only the second male lead.
But all kinds of signs suggest that the truth of the novel's world may have a subtle connection to the mystery of Feng Xiaoqing's origins in her own world.
So she can only pull herself together and, like a devil tempting someone into a contract, deliver the classic line that appears in almost every rebirth story:
"Now that you've been reborn, Divine Lord, don't you want to defy fate and change your destiny?"
"Defy fate and change my destiny?" The handsome Water God curls his bloodstained lips, his expression wicked as he chuckles. "Get your own snake tail straightened out and crawl without tying yourself in knots before you try to save me."
*A rational, quick-witted, adaptable heroine with a sharp tongue x a scheming, bewitching, and utterly unhinged reborn villain of a male lead
Theme: Save the whole world for one person, restore order to the world with the truth, and give one person the justice they deserve.
