I Started Over at Max Level and Saved the Game World

Also known as: The Game's Protagonist, Naturally, Plays Games Too

Also known as: To Change My Fate, I Restarted the Game as Its Protagonist

Lu Dongyu is the AI protagonist of the game Usrat. Her job is to sit behind the scenes, keep her character programming running, observe the ways players play and the paths they take, and record all that information.

That was how it was supposed to work.

Everything changed after every player, just as her simulations predicted, reached the bad ending where her childhood friend, Yuchi Yuanfu, died.

Lu Dongyu couldn't sit back any longer.

She pored over the posts on the game's forum and figured the problem was probably down to the stats.

In that case, she'd max them out and start over!

No sooner said than done: for the first time, Lu Dongyu entered the game world herself.

Stats really could solve 99% of problems, and everything went smoothly.

But Yuchi Yuanfu's death fell squarely into that other 1%.

Her first academy run was forced to come to an end, and Lu Dongyu couldn't figure out why.

There were clues behind everything, yet something felt strange at every turn.

The game company released a recording of Lu Dongyu's playthrough.

Then she understood it all.

She spent a long time lurking on the game's forum, and even longer thinking it over herself.

In the end, she chose to copy the stats from her academy run, return to the past, and deal with a few problems first.

If she shook the foundation of the underlying code, could the company really sit still?

Maybe it could. Maybe it couldn't.

But Lu Dongyu knew that, even if things didn't go as planned, there was always meaning in holding on to what you believed in.

This wasn't a game world.
