[Demon Slayer/GiyuShino] The Last Demon in the World

Every person who left took a little more of Tomioka Giyu with them, and something new grew in its place. The part of him connected to Shinobu Kocho coalesced into the last demon in the world.

When he was nearing the end of his life, the meaning of meeting her was to say goodbye. To say goodbye to everything.

Every goodbye meant dying a little.

"Do you really not understand why I can't be reincarnated?"

It was snowing now. It had snowed yesterday, too. It had been snowing for days.

People who had never seen snow might think it was always white, but that wasn't true.

By the time the snow stopped, it was almost always wet, yellowish, and filthy. Damp, cold, murky, heavy. The same color as every unspoken regret.

"I don't know," he finally said.

Giyu knew, really. It snowed every night.

Back then, Giyu was still trapped in his narrow well. Its walls echoed his personal sorrow, both pitiful and ridiculous. The night wind passed through, making a low, mournful sound. The formless noise was as thin as a thread in the vast world, yet it presumptuously filled the entire night.

He still didn't understand how, deep within Shinobu Kocho's tears, molten lava could burst forth. He still didn't understand that a person could let rain fall in their eyes all night and still walk across solid ground.

Theme: The story of a departed soul is about letting go, while the story of a heart demon is about facing things
