On the first day he brought it home, he let it roam free. He hoped it would fulfill its purpose. On the fifth day, Xie Xiyan ordered food for reptiles. It couldn't die before he did, could it? On the tenth day after bringing it home, and the tenth night of insomnia, he was still alive! After a long search, he found the little snake curled up like a mosquito coil, fast asleep. “...” Useless thing. Xie Xiyan steeled himself and tried not to care about it. Snakes were cold-blooded, after all, and he felt nothing for any living creature. Still, having another species in his cold, empty home made him a little restless. It made him late for work and leave early. He kept wanting to check whether it had died yet. Xie Xiyan didn't care about it. He just happened to drop a little tasty food on the table, and the snake ate it. Sometimes he'd put on an educational video, and two hours later the snake would still be watching, its head no bigger than a fingernail tilted up. Oh, the video? He'd just forgotten to turn it off... And because Xie Xiyan paid it no mind, it even got bold enough to crawl into his bed and sleep there. When he woke up in the morning, the snake's position on his body would change at random. One morning, he woke up to find that it had turned into a human. Even heavier. This NPC diligently grows vegetables every day, only for novice players to steal them. Whenever the pixel person discovers the theft, the item in its hands drops to the ground and an exclamation mark appears above its head. Later, Ling Xiao fell in love with the pixel person in the game. Every day, he rampaged through map dungeons, covered in the blood of other NPC bosses, then returned to the beginner's village to find it. The pixel person would spot him from far away, bounce up and down, and wave, calling him its wife. Whenever they touched, red blush pixels and pink bubbles appeared on its face. But at some point, the pixel person started acting strange and stopped calling him its wife. His sword kept turning up in piles of poop on the farm. After drinking vegetable soup personally made by the pixel person, he'd wake up with only one point left on his health bar. Stranger still, one day the pixel person abandoned the vegetable patch and little chicks at home and ran away. To find it, Ling Xiao searched every dungeon map, and all the NPCs in the game were terrified. - Later on, players across the server all witnessed something like this, more or less: A pixel person in a bamboo hat from the beginner's village, wandering all over the game map. This farmer NPC had extremely low attack power and could only survive in the beginner's village. The moment it left, other players would kill it. And yet, several days passed, and no one dared go near the little NPC. Because the number one player on the server was right behind it: the powerhouse with 99% map exploration who never failed to defeat a boss, Ling Xiao.
