A resilient, sunny girl who lost her hearing later in life × a proud, unruly poor boy

“Have you ever loved someone you couldn’t be with, yet couldn’t let go of? Is that something you’ve experienced personally?”
Jewelry designer Jiang Yuwei was asked this question in an interview.
For the few seconds she drifted off, Jiang Yuwei remembered a summer night four years earlier.
A boy named Chu Jiahuai had burst into her once-silent world, bringing warmth and brilliance.
From then on, as long as she was by his side, she could hear the world.
Jiang Yuwei, wearing hearing aids in both ears, looked at the camera and gave a smile that didn’t quite seem at peace.
“I had that love, but I lost it, too. Couldn’t let go…” she said. “No.”
Two hours after saying those words, Jiang Yuwei recognized Chu Jiahuai in a white coat from behind alone.
“Patient, how long are you going to keep grabbing me?”
Faced with such a distant form of address, Jiang Yuwei took off her hearing aids and listened clearly to his heartbeat. “Jiahuai, it’s been a long time.”
“You’ve got the wrong person.”
She smiled. “I don’t.”
She could never mistake the person who once said he would become an ear, nose, and throat doctor and cure her hearing.

Chu Jiahuai had grown up in the gutter, cold and arrogant, and impossible to sway.
But Jiang Yuwei knew exactly how to handle him. She tried the same approach she’d used when she chased after him before.
Only this time, instead of making the boy blush, it left her aching in restraints.
“Why? Why did you leave without saying goodbye?”
Chu Jiahuai pinned her against the bedroom wall, eyes red as he demanded an answer.
Jiang Yuwei touched his cheek. “Do you believe in soul resonance? For no reason at all, my pain would intensify in you, making you suffer hardships that weren’t yours to bear.”
I’ve never thought it was hard. I just want to stay by your side.
A gentle kiss cut off the words Chu Jiahuai wanted to say.
“Can you forgive me?”
Forgive me for the decision I made back then, believing we would surely meet again someday.
Their breaths grew hot and ragged. He finally dropped his defenses. He didn’t talk about forgiveness. He only said, “I missed you.”

[When their souls resonate, their heartbeats are in sync.]
“My world found its voice again because of you. You’re the gift my mother sent to me.”
“But if being with me means you’ll suffer, I’d rather return to the silent nights without you.”
Jewelry designer × ear, nose, and throat doctor
“You are my voice.”
“You are my salvation.”
