[A self-effacing, gentle, calculating green-tea guy x a tough, avoidant, sunny girl]
Cen Jing ducked into the restroom to sneak a nap. When she woke up, she found herself inside a melodramatic school novel. Not only did she have no System or golden finger, she was also tasked with preventing the male lead and male supporting character from turning evil.
The male supporting character grows up to have an extraordinary talent for drug development. His original drug draws attention while still in clinical trials, and once it hits the market, it could save hundreds of thousands of families with sick loved ones.
But trapped by memories of the past, he strays from the path everyone had expected him to take and does all sorts of outrageous things. In the end, he doesn’t even spare himself, leaping from the laboratory building. Everyone mourns his loss.
To complete her mission, Cen Jing does everything she can. She finally manages to help Jiang Zhou grow into a “man of noble character and pure spirit.” But can someone tell her who this possessive man, consumed by insecurity, is? She was only away for a few months after an accident!
*
The day the team’s original drug successfully passes its Phase III clinical trial, everyone in the lab breathes a sigh of relief.
But on the night everyone celebrates, Jiang Zhou sits alone on the edge of the laboratory rooftop, clutching a stack of documents. He seems to be muttering to himself, or perhaps speaking to someone.
“I’ll give you myself, all of me. Give Cen Jing back to me.”
But there is no voice in the air. It is so quiet, as if the world is simply watching his madness.
Jiang Zhou seems to have expected this. “You’re running out of time. I want to see her too. Let’s find out which of us wins.”
With that, Jiang Zhou closes his eyes. A sense of weightlessness washes over him.
Only when he feels his blood flowing again and his heart begin to beat once more does he know he’s alive.
Those who are meant to meet will meet again.
*The story has a fairly slow build.
*The excerpt in the blurb is a memory from a past life.
*The male lead grows over time. He won’t start out especially capable.
*The male lead turns dark, but isn’t a pervert and never hurts the heroine. Most of the damage is self-inflicted.
*This isn’t a typical darkening story. It’s actually a sweet little romance.
*Both leads are each other’s first and only, body and heart.
Upcoming Novel Blurb
"A polished, brooding tech tycoon with overwhelming possessiveness x a quirky, oblivious, looks-obsessed cartoonist"
Marriage first, love later | Secret identities revealed | Mutual healing | He’s secretly in love | Instinctive attraction
Tu Ya gets married on a whim, and to Yu Qingshi, of all people.
Who knows how little they had to do with each other before? They’d only crossed paths twice, and even that was less time than she’d spent drawing the webcomic based on him...
Maybe it was so long ago that her memory of him had faded.
But none of that matters!
Because the man he is now is exactly her type!
Broad shoulders, a trim waist, long legs, and those lazy phoenix eyes that narrow and tilt upward when he smiles. He ticks every box on her list.
Especially the dark mole beneath his eye. It’s exactly like the one she drew in her comic!
But how had she never noticed that mole before? Did it appear later?
Time really is magic. A good man is like fine wine!
But three months into their marriage, Tu Ya regrets it.
What good is a fine wine if you can’t drink it? It might as well be plain water.
When she was single, she could at least admire handsome men now and then. Now that she’s married, she can’t even touch one, and her bargain-bin husband is always using “concern” as an excuse to control every aspect of her life! She can’t do this or go there!
At last, Tu Ya works up the courage to put on a camisole she hasn’t worn in ages and go out to have some fun. But when she turns around, she finds the man standing behind her, eyes bloodshot. She has no idea when he appeared.
In his hand is a screenshot of the webcomic she had hidden away again and again.
“YaYa, did you draw this?”
“I... I did. So what?”
“Are you dressed like that because you’re going to see him?”
His voice is broken and anguished. Sick, obsessive fixation spreads through his eyes, making him seem like a completely different person from the poised, noble man he was before.
She instinctively backs away, but his sharply defined hand yanks her into his arms. His palm clamps around her neck as his ragged breaths fall against her flushed cheeks.
“If he can do it, so can I. YaYa, is it really so hard to look at me?”
She is about to explain, but he presses his lips hard against hers, leaving her powerless to fight back.
Later, whenever she remembers that day, the first thing that comes back is her trembling legs.
Just as she starts to think their life will go on quietly, she accidentally finds another of Yu Qingshi’s phones. Every photo on it is connected to her: her family’s old house, her graduation picture from England.
There are also screenshots of her old comics, repeatedly annotated by him. Every word records what he has pieced together about her ideal type from her comics.
All those labels come together in that moment, forming the image of Yu Qingshi she first knew.
The tangled thoughts make her mind go blank. Just as she’s about to put everything back, a chill suddenly runs down Tu Ya’s back. She stiffens instinctively and hears a familiar voice.
“YaYa, you know everything now, don’t you?”
