Strangers to lovers after marriage | Seven-year age gap | Older man falls for her on his own
Warm-faced, adorable manga artist vs. reserved, devoted engineer husband
1.
In the fifth month after they registered their marriage, Wen Shuyi moved into the spare bedroom again.
After they started sleeping in separate beds, she kept dreaming at night. In her dreams, Ji Songzhou was nothing like his usual bland self. Instead, he was an out-and-out kissing fiend.
One night, Wen Shuyi finally woke up from the heat.
When she met a pair of shadowy eyes, she realized this wasn't a dream at all...
Wen Shuyi clutched the blanket and curled up into a ball.
"Ji Songzhou, you jerk! You're not even human!"
In the dark, Ji Songzhou took her hand and rubbed his face against her palm.
His lips glistened, and his voice was hoarse. "Shuyi... Could you scold me a little more? Please don't ignore me."
Looking at the man asleep with his face buried against her chest, Wen Shuyi realized she might have forgotten another stereotype about engineers: they're secretly passionate.
2.
They'd agreed to fix their sleep schedule, but after midnight, Ji Songzhou twined his fingers around the hem of her pajamas, silently urging her to go to bed.
Wen Shuyi felt uneasy under his gaze.
"Ji Songzhou, you're kind of annoying!"
The bed was as cold as his heart. Shuyi didn't try to coax him.
Wasn't he making it obvious enough that he was angry?
Wen Shuyi got up and staggered to the kitchen, her steps unsteady. She looked around. The counter where lunch was usually left was spotless, with nothing on it.
Wen Shuyi's eyes flew open when she heard the sound of laundry being hung on the balcony.
Ji Songzhou hadn't gone to work today! Was he... really angry?
Wen Shuyi's heart pounded.
She could admit she was wrong without changing her ways, but she couldn't live without his cooking.
After a long bout of mental preparation, she slowly shuffled over to the balcony and spoke with an entirely unjustified confidence.
"Didn't you leave me any food today?"
Before Ji Songzhou could answer, she rubbed her nose and softened her voice. "Honey... are you still going to cook for me?"
Ji Songzhou paused as he wiped his hands. The moment he heard her voice, all the resentment in his heart silently vanished.
He smiled. Sure enough, Shuyi still cared about him.
Without turning around, he replied in a tone that gave nothing away, "Did you lift the lid on the pot at the far end?"
