Deep inside a glass castle filled with ever-blooming roses, there lived a BJD doll spoiled rotten by everyone.
She was justifiably proud and naturally capricious, yet she always sighed at her crystal mirror: "Sigh, I'm so stunningly beautiful... Too bad I'm not smart enough."
Her standards for a partner used to be simple: smart, beautiful, and like the most obedient mechanical nightingale, singing only for her.
And so, suitors came in droves
An older domineering CEO in a black silk three-piece suit, whose confession sounded like a business contract; a walking double-door refrigerator with a chest strong enough to crack walnuts, always ready to pin her against a wall of roses;
And a deep-sea playboy with a tail more dazzling than a peacock's and love poems sold by the ton.
The doll rolled her diamond-studded eyes and tossed roses into the fireplace. "Trash, trash, all of you are trash!"
Until one misty morning, she opened the window and saw someone standing in a corner of the garden.
The doll narrowed her glassy eyes, her picky radar buzzing:
"Tsk, mud on his clothes... His eyes are too gentle... Letting a stray snail pass is so stupid... Mommy, I don't want to marry some shabby, dirt-covered poor fool like him!
The young man loved the world selflessly.
He loved the old cook who was always complaining that his pastries weren't sweet enough, the children who secretly tugged at his petals, the old dog with a bad leg that still rubbed against his palm, and even the crack in the castle wall that was always leaking rain.
But people never thought it was enough:
"If you love everything, why not give me a little more?"
"If you wear such a luxurious divine outfit, why not give me one of your petals?"
"Loving so easily must be nice... So what would it cost you to take on one more burden for me?"
The young man felt deeply sorry for them, and loved them with even greater guilt.
Until one day, the doll could take it no longer. She hurried up to him, lifting her skirt, her rose thorns flaring with anger. "Hey! You idiot! They don't deserve your love at all. This world is all transactions, scheming, and insatiable greed!"
The young man tilted his head, his petal-covered divine outfit swaying gently.
He thought about it for a very, very long time, until the mist cleared and the clouds parted. Then he shook his head:
"No. Love itself... doesn't need a reason."
The doll crushed a whole ring of violets underfoot and suddenly narrowed her eyes:
"Fine. If you're so determined to love the whole world, "
She rose on tiptoe and leaned close to his ear. "Then I'll teach you first... what it means to love only one person."
After all, she'd warned him long ago: "Don't fall in love with anyone too easily, and don't trust anyone too easily either~"
