[A clueless puppy of a girl x a cold, aloof older man]
Cang Guan came to the Three Realms with two daunting tasks: find a way to save her people, and ensure the continuation of her species.
She was lucky enough to meet this world's deity as soon as she arrived in the mortal realm: Lord Jun Yuehua. He was noble and radiant, a peerless immortal, the battle god of the Ninefold Palace untouched by the mortal world, a cold moon beyond reach. Yet the very first time he saw her, he told her he had fallen for her.
Naturally, Cang Guan marked him as a breeding partner.
But once she reached the Ninefold Palace, she discovered that Lord Jun Yuehua was cold, reserved, rigid, and always telling her what to do.
When their bodies were switched, he would stop her from touching anything below his neck.
Cang Guan ignored him and touched him from head to toe. Once they switched back, he would bite her mouth. It hurt!
To ensure she could reproduce, she cast a lovesick spell on him. They spent a night in unrestrained passion, but the next morning he turned cold and denied everything, strictly limiting her indulgence. "From now on, twice a month at most."
Cang Guan nodded fearlessly. "Fine. I'll come see you on the first and fifteenth, then. First, I'll go try things out with some other gods."
He thought she was joking.
Later, when the Lord returned from battle, still in his armor, he pressed her down among the peonies and ignored the heavenly laws, "teaching her a lesson" in the most hands-on way. "From now on, I'll come whenever you call, Baobao. Don't seek out anyone else."
He called her "Baobao," indulged and cherished her in everything, gave her a longevity lock to keep her safe, and crossed mountains and valleys to find the finest materials and make her wedding dress himself.
She thought he loved her.
Until she saw the portrait of another goddess and heard with her own ears about his past passion with her, she didn't realize she was merely that woman's substitute.
She didn't know that Lord Jun Yuehua's ultimate aim was to kill her.
-
Everyone said that Lord Jun Yuehua of the Ninefold Palace was a cold and detached god who could sever his romantic attachments to fulfill his heavenly duty, even kill his wife to attain the Dao.
But Xiao Huang'er, a village child from Changle Village, thought otherwise. She had seen the Lord make osmanthus cakes with his own hands to honor his wife. She had seen him sit motionless before his wife's grave all night, tears filling his eyes.
She had also seen the exalted Lord brave mountains of blades and seas of fire for his wife, kneel for a long time before the Hall of the Netherworld King, and offer up his own divine power in sacrifice, begging the heavens to return his wife and child to him.
That solitary, lofty moon finally descended into the world of mortals.
Reading guide:
1. Both leads are sexually inexperienced, and the male lead is pure in both body and heart. The blurb uses a misleading perspective. The female lead has a dog-like personality, specifically a beagle's.
2. This is not a traditional "chasing his wife to the crematorium" story. It's more a tale of deep love and ill-fated ties, and a saint's selfish desire.
3. The blurb differs slightly from the main story. It has both tenderness and melodrama, and ends in tragedy.
4. The leads from the neighboring novel, "Qing Feng Du Wo," appear in a past-life side story. You can read it as a completely new story, and you don't need to have read the later-life story first.
The original title is "No Road from the Mortal World to the Immortal Realm," taken from:
"Since our lovemaking, we have been parted; from the mortal world there is no road to the immortal realm. I can only seek you across the ends of the earth in dreams." - Zhang Mi, "Huan Xi Sha: Standing Alone on the Cold Steps, Gazing at the Moon"
Theme: The Great Dao is heartless, but the mortal world is full of love.
