Yinzhen was reborn. (Political plot)
He closed his eyes at the imperial desk, but it felt as if he had only taken a nap. When he awoke, it was already the Qianlong era.
Sitting on the dragon throne was his fourth son, Aisin Gioro Hongli. He, however, had become Hongli and Fucha's daughter, the Gurun Princess Hemin, Aisin Gioro Zhaoheng.
Although she was still a member of the imperial family, being reborn as a woman meant giving up his ideals and ambitions.
How could Yinzhen accept that? Was he supposed to let the empire fall into the hands of his unworthy descendants? And all because he was a woman in this life?
But that was the way of the world, and he couldn't find even the smallest opening, until... Little Yanzi flew into the palace.
She ignored the rules, had no sense of hierarchy, and even her identity was fake. Yet somehow, she also opened a little crack in the depths of this palace.
Yinxiang's perspective (romance plot)
Yinxiang had always kept a secret: he loved his fourth brother. He had probably loved him since they were very young, but back then he was too young and naive to understand his feelings. By the time he understood them, more than brotherhood stood between them: there was also the gulf between ruler and subject. He poured all his sorrow into the endless affairs of state, willingly devoting his whole life to his elder brother.
What he regretted was having to die before his elder brother, and the love he could never speak of throughout his life.
He thought he would never get another chance, but he never expected to be reborn, or to find that his fourth brother was still here in this world.
The barriers that had separated them in their previous lives were gone.
If his fourth brother wanted to become an "empress," then what did it matter if Yinxiang devoted his life to him all over again?
Reading Guide:
1. This is not purely an anti-Qiong Yao story. The author generally acknowledges the original characters, but will discuss certain matters on their own merits.
2. Zhaoheng (Yinzhen) is Fucha's second daughter, born before Yongcong.
3. Qianlong had a fairly good relationship with Yongzheng, so even if Yinzhen is not Fucha's child, Qianlong would still like her. The story's setup is simply meant to give her the Fucha family's support and the status of a Gurun Princess.
4. The political plot may be rather naive. In truth, I've gone over it again and again, but still can't find a reasonable, legitimate way for a princess to become emperor in the Qing dynasty. Fortunately, this is the world of My Fair Princess, so just treat the implausible parts as comedy.
5. The main cast of My Fair Princess has plenty of screen time. Yinzhen and Yinxiang won't join them, but they will get along well.
