Chen Zhao first meets Gu Zhixing at a dinner gathering organized by his younger brother.

Gu Zhixing is bright and charismatic, effortlessly winning everyone over.

When the gathering ends, he asks softly, "Brother, can I come home with you?"

Chen Zhao's heart skips a beat.

Gu Zhixing lowers his head and continues, "Brother Zhao, ever since my mom died, I haven't had a home."

But that night, Gu Zhixing quietly slips into Chen Zhao's room.

He whispers into Chen Zhao's ear, "Brother Zhao, I'll help you seize power, and you'll help me take the throne.

"I'm willing to let you sleep with me."

The whirlpool of power never spares anyone with ambition.

Chen Zhao is no exception.

After that night, the two move in together as a matter of course.

But they never make their relationship official.

It eats away at him.

He looks at that innocent, harmless face, yet he still can't bring himself to make a move.

Chen Zhao probes, "What are we to each other now?"

Gu Zhixing keeps playing dumb. "We're friends, Brother Zhao."

Chen Zhao takes out a ring. "Will you be with me?"

Gu Zhixing answers a different question. "I love you."

Chen Zhao doesn't understand.

Was all of this just wishful thinking on his part?

-

They fall passionately in love, get tangled up, and end things.

The whole relationship lasts less than a month.

Chen Zhao watches helplessly as Gu Zhixing pulls away, while he remains trapped in the whirlpool of desire, unable to move on.

Until one day, at a gambling match.

Pei Rujin, the rising new power of Haicheng, makes his first appearance at a gala.

Beneath the mask is the face Chen Zhao has longed to see every day.

The person he wanted to save from a terrible fate.

Chen Zhao falls apart completely.

But Gu Zhixing can't sit still anymore.

Gu Zhixing: "...I just wanted to keep you in suspense, not lose my husband, okay!"
