Part One
Shen Jinyi had watched her parents go from young lovers to a couple who couldn't stand the sight of each other. She had expected to spend her life alone, until Huo Ting burst into her world when she was twenty-nine.
She first met Huo Ting on the elevated highway from the airport to Hangzhou, where she was tending to the injured as an emergency room doctor.
The window of a business-class car rolled slowly down. A pair of long, beautiful peach-blossom eyes, bloodshot and coldly arrogant, glared at her. He frowned impatiently and asked, "Are you going to keep this up forever?"
When they met again, the two people who couldn't stand each other were thrown together as temporary teacher and student on a variety show.
He was still outrageously arrogant, deliberately picking a fight in front of the cameras. "Teacher Shen, you got this part wrong."
She clenched her teeth and glared at him, only to see him raise an eyebrow and smile.
For all his arrogance, he was like a boy experiencing his first crush when he licked his lips and asked, "Why not give me a chance?"
And when she turned him down, he was like a soaking-wet, oversized dog, his eyes red as he protested, "Shen Jinyi, you're prejudiced against me."
Part Two
Huo Ting had grown up with every advantage as a rich second-generation heir, and was a dazzling new star adored throughout the entertainment industry. He had never lacked love, but Shen Jinyi left him badly burned.
He had seen her fearlessly fighting to save a patient's life, and had also seen her helplessly crying in a stairwell late at night.
She shared her past with him, and stood up for him when others slandered him.
He thought their relationship would naturally fall into place.
Instead, her words, "We're from different worlds," sent him plunging to rock bottom.
Perhaps Shen Jinyi was the romantic trial he was destined to face after twenty-six years of throwing his weight around. She said, "I don't believe in love." Bonus Scene:
One day after they got together, Shen Jinyi received a call from Huo Ting's manager.
"Huo Ting, you liked those posts from your main account again!"
It was the third time that month he'd used his main account to like posts from their CP fans.
Huo Ting looked at Shen Jinyi's annoyed expression and pulled her into his arms. "Can't help it. They're all way too good at talking."
"Listen to this one: No matter what, my bro's got at least one thing on your fave. At least our sister-in-law has the highest educational qualifications on the whole internet!"
"And this one: How can my bro not be up to the job? I saw sister-in-law at the hospital that day, she could barely walk, and her collarbones were covered in hickeys. How is that not proof...?"
Shen Jinyi pinched his arm in warning. "Huo Ting, shut up! Say another word and I'll make sure you can't do the job ever again!"
Huo Ting obediently fell silent.
