Blurb:
Zhu Jinzhao got married through a family arrangement, and the wedding was more lavish than any other.
Everyone marveled at how perfectly suited the couple were.
Except...
She hadn't been the bride this wedding was meant for.
In fact, not long ago, she'd still been calling Xie Huaiyu... brother-in-law.
-
Her married life was undeniably happy. After all, Xie Huaiyu was a husband beyond reproach.
He was patient and understanding, thoughtful and considerate. Aside from being too forceful in bed, he almost always indulged her.
For a moment, even Zhu Jinzhao thought they might go on like this forever, growing old together.
Divorcing him was a decision Zhu Jinzhao made after careful consideration.
She wanted to do something she liked, purely for herself.
The agreement had been drawn up long ago. Then, late one night, after a long while, she finally made up her mind and handed it to him.
"Why?" Xie Huaiyu leaned against the headboard, bare-chested, with the bite mark she'd left on his collarbone still visible. His gaze, dark and unreadable, turned to her. "What isn't to your liking?"
Zhu Jinzhao avoided his eyes. "This marriage wasn't what either of us wanted in the first place. I don't want to continue."
A few days later, Xie Huaiyu gave her his answer: a divorce agreement with even better terms for her.
-
After the divorce, Zhu Jinzhao became richer than ever and lived freely and on her own terms. She was also surrounded by admirers.
But the most persistent of them all was her ex-husband, Xie Huaiyu.
He showered her with gifts and kept running into her every few days.
After one too many "coincidences," Zhu Jinzhao stopped him with an impatient look. "We're divorced, you know?"
Xie Huaiyu glanced at her. "I'm a few years older than you, but I'm not old enough to lose my mind."
Zhu Jinzhao folded her arms and asked in confusion, "Then what are you trying to do?"
Xie Huaiyu answered without a hint of shame: "Pursue you."
Zhu Jinzhao laughed in exasperation. "You're pursuing me after we divorced? Why did you agree to it in the first place, then?"
The next second,
for the first time, she saw just how shameless her usually aloof ex-husband could be.
"What, is it illegal to pursue your ex-wife?"
A story about leaving a safe harbor to find better weather.
