At the end of summer, when they were sixteen, rain poured down in sheets.

A boy was cornered against a wall, his black hoodie soaked through. Blood ran from the corner of his mouth, and a fearsome, violent aura roiled around him. He was like a lone wolf backed into a dead end.

That was the first time Xu Zhinuan met Jiang Che.

She called the police and gave her statement at the station. When she came out, she happened to see the injured boy plunge without hesitation into the pouring rain. She gripped the spare umbrella in her hand, hesitated for just a moment, then ran after him.

Everyone said Jiang Che was withdrawn, strange, and troubled.

But looking at the lonely, desolate expression on the boy's face, Xu Zhinuan had only one thought

She wanted to make Jiang Che happy.

He rarely made promises.

But in that moment, he earnestly hoped she would be there with him every spring to come.

In her second year of high school, Lin Tingyu moved in with the Xie family because her parents had been transferred for work.

She lowered her eyes.

In her blurred vision, a gray shadow suddenly fell across her view.

She looked up and saw that Xie Yanheng had appeared in front of her without her noticing.

He glanced down at her, then toward the figure in the distance. Frowning slightly, he said in a flat tone, "Your taste is pretty mediocre."

She was already upset, and now he was rubbing salt in the wound.

Lin Tingyu snapped, "Just because you're my older brother doesn't mean you can judge me whenever you want!"

Xie Yanheng didn't answer. He quietly watched her cry.

A few seconds later, he said, "I mean, he's okay, but your taste is pretty mediocre."

She froze.

Then, in disbelief, she heard him say:

"Otherwise, why would you fall for him and not me?"
