Only pure-hearted leads | Transmigrate into the past | Slow-witted young educated woman x self-restrained, proper, hopeless romantic
Gui Qingyuan x Zhou Qikun
“Why did we meet? Because fate brought us together.”
*
“Have you heard?”
“That educated youth Gui, who ran into a tree while working the other day, married Zhou Qikun, the brigade leader’s nephew!”
*
A week earlier, Gui Qingyuan had inexplicably transmigrated into the 1970s.
Just as she was at her wit’s end, trying to find another way forward, Zhou Qikun suddenly appeared. He explained that his family was pressuring him to marry and said casually, “Marry me. We’ll each get what we need.”
Gui Qingyuan had heard that his family was influential, and that ability seemed like little more than a bonus for him.
But they were barely acquaintances. Gui Qingyuan glanced at him. “Why me?”
Out of the corner of his eye, Zhou Qikun caught the confusion in hers and smiled faintly. “My family likes pretty people.”
She lowered her eyes to the blisters on her fingertips, worn raw from harvesting grain at work.
Gui Qingyuan thought that marrying him didn’t seem like a bad deal.
*
After their wedding, Gui Qingyuan kept her word, remaining proper and never crossing the line.
Little did she know that Zhou Qikun’s casual acts of care had already found a place in her heart, stirring up ripples within her.
So Gui Qingyuan kept reminding herself that their marriage was fake, and quietly distanced herself to keep her feelings in check.
Until one night, Zhou Qikun cornered her by the head of the bed with an almost predatory intensity. His long fingers curled around the ends of her hair. “Why haven’t you been talking to me lately?”
“Hm?” His rich, alluring voice made Gui Qingyuan’s heart tremble.
With Zhou Qikun leaving her nowhere to retreat, she stammered, “I... I haven’t.”
Gui Qingyuan held her breath, certain he had noticed her feelings.
Zhou Qikun released her hair, then immediately leaned over her, enveloping her like a predator. His voice was low and husky, almost probing. “Then what is it?”
“Could it be...” His trailing words sent a tingling shiver through her. “That you’ve found out I like you?”
The words coursed through Gui Qingyuan like an electric shock, making her shiver faintly. “You found out?”
“Hm?”
Gui Qingyuan felt as if she were wrapped in a dizzying, weightless haze.
The heat in her face and her flustered feelings had yet to fade.
She looked up in a panic and suddenly met his deep, unfathomable eyes.
#There was no “getting what we needed.” He had planned this love at first sight all along.#

Theme: Nothing can change my love for you.
At that time, malted milk was very expensive, and cigarettes were not cheap either. They gave me too much.
