Forced pursuit | Stealing someone's lover | Angsty push and pull | Love rivals in a fierce rivalry | Hong Kong flair
The day after she went with her classmates to feed pigeons at Central Plaza, someone knocked on Zhuang Yudie's door.
A business card was slipped through the crack. The person outside said, “Miss Zhuang, Mr. Liang would like to see you. Would you be willing to do him the honor?”
A servant led Zhuang Yudie into the conservatory.
Sunlight streamed through the glass dome. Pure white lilies bloomed in abundance, filling the air with their fragrance.
A man sat on a bench, his eyes lowered as he read a hardback book.
Zhuang Yudie saw his cool, pale skin and faintly colored lips. He looked as if he could blend into the flowers.
Hearing her approach, he turned his head slightly. His raven-black lashes lifted, revealing eyes that were just as pale. Wearily, he said to Zhuang Yudie,
“Come here.”
The servant pushed her forward. From that moment on, or perhaps long before, Zhuang Yudie no longer had the right to turn back.

The first time she met Fu Jinxiu was at a party.
At the time, she had her arm linked with Liang Xueci's, smiling with practiced grace. She had already learned how to play the part of a dutiful partner.
The man walked over with a glass of wine. He addressed Liang Xueci with unmistakable indifference, yet his captivating gaze fell on her.
His looks and gaze were fiercely aggressive. Zhuang Yudie took half a step back. He raised an eyebrow and said,
“Mr. Liang, your companion seems rather afraid of me.”
Then, with a teasing air but gentlemanly manners, he plucked a boutonniere from a server's chest and offered it to Zhuang Yudie.
“Allow me to borrow a flower to pay my respects. Miss, I'm an old friend of Mr. Liang's. We'll be seeing each other again, so please accept this small token from Fu.”
Zhuang Yudie lowered her eyes. Her long, slender fingers held the vivid red rose.
When she looked up, the handsome man, with his almost savage features, was looking down at her, his dark eyes bottomless.

When she looks back on her life, Zhuang Yudie will speak of two men.
One always gave her lilies, the other always gave her roses.
Lilies are bittersweet; roses are intoxicating.
