A sharp-tongued, soft-hearted, jealous bad boy VS a gentle yet strong-willed, clear-eyed heroine
1.
The first time Yingxia saw Sheng Huai was in the Sheng family's luxurious villa. Feeling awkward, she called out, "Big brother."
"Who are you calling your brother?" The boy's dark eyes hid a flash of anger. He flipped up his hood and strode out into the rain.
Yingxia had never meant to climb the social ladder. She only wanted to get her household registration settled so she could take the college entrance exams.
Months of keeping her head down and trying every way she could to please him earned her nothing but coldness and cutting remarks.
On another day of torrential rain, she stood in front of his car and pleaded humbly, "Just six months. It'll be over after the college entrance exams. Can you do that?"
Rain poured down her collar. Sheng Huai sat in the car, looking at her through the foggy window without saying a word.
Then the car door opened, and he took her home.
2. The day her admission letter arrived, Sheng Huai took her to see a band perform.
Late that night, after the celebratory dinner, they were walking down a busy street when a motorcycle roared past, grazing her arm. He yanked her back. "Are you stupid? Can't you watch where you're going?!"
She had just come out of an air-conditioned room, and her arm was cold, but his hand gripping her wrist was scorching hot. The warmth of his palm seemed to race through her veins and fill her mind. She stared at his profile, briefly entranced.
Before she could confess her feelings, his phone rang out of nowhere. The word "Baby" kept flashing on the screen, making her eyes ache.
3.
Years after she left without a word.
She crossed the ocean to come back and see him perform.
In the packed crowd, he spotted her onstage for no reason he could explain. He paused, then sang the song she used to love most.
After the show, he didn't ask, and she didn't explain. He silently took her back to the bedroom where she had lived all those years ago.
At dawn, exhausted, Yingxia rested her head against his chest and murmured, "Big brother."
Thinking of all the years she and Lin Mo had spent abroad, jealousy surged through him as he gripped her. "Which big brother are you talking about?"
A pang of pain at her waist brought her instantly to her senses. Without a moment's hesitation, she answered with a question: "And which one is the 'Baby' in your phone contacts?"
