Luan Fengying, the eldest legitimate daughter of the Northern Marquis's manor in the Great Shun Kingdom, learned martial arts from her father and brothers from a young age. At fourteen, she donned armor and went to war; at seventeen, she led an army to repel the Northern Di; at nineteen, she took command of the Northern Army. She thought she would spend her life on the battlefield, until one year, in a corner of the palace, she met Chu Huiyou, a hostage from an enemy kingdom being bullied by the princes. She came to his defense, and he gave her a piece of warm jade. From then on, the young man's feelings stayed hidden deep within the palace, while she saw him only as a younger brother in need of protection.
During his five years as a hostage, Chu Huiyou plotted his future through humiliation, while Luan Fengying guarded his safety at the border. She helped him fake his death and escape, so he could return home and seize power, never knowing that he had already sworn to himself: "When I rule the world, I will offer you my kingdom as your bride price." Three years later, war flared again in the north. Luan Fengying donned her armor to face the enemy, only to find Chu Huiyou, now the new ruler of the enemy kingdom, across the battlefield. The once-gentle youth had become an iron-fisted emperor. Looking at her, his voice rang through the war drums: "Sister Fengying, I've come to marry you." For the first time, the hand holding her sword trembled.
But when she was defeated and returned home, she found her father and brothers dead in prison, the emperor suspicious and pressing her, and the court officials framing and slandering her. The country she had once protected had become a cage. Amid the flames of a world in chaos, should she fight to the death for her family and country, or throw herself into his arms, even if it means bearing the name of traitor?
"Chu Huiyou, if I hadn't stopped for you that day..."
"Fengying, from the day you held an umbrella over me, you became the tribulation fate had chosen for me in this life."
