The first time she met Pei Jiyang was at the end of summer, when she was fifteen.

Xiang Xueqing was still worrying about her high school entrance exams. She gazed up at the dazzling boy onstage, giving a speech as the city's top scorer, never imagining their lives would ever intersect.

After school, she climbed anxiously into the car waiting outside the school gate. When she looked up, she met a pair of dark, indifferent eyes.

The boy leaned against the car door, looking down at her.

Xiang Xueqing braced a hand on the seat and froze for a moment.

An adult beside them said, “Don't be scared. Say hello to your big brother.”

So many people liked him.

She helped fend off his admirers and passed along the love letters his friends gave him. Through all the twists and turns, she always kept to her role as his little sister.

With every “big brother,” she pressed down the turbulent feelings swelling inside her.

Until a summer night after the college entrance exams.

Xiang Xueqing was chatting happily on the phone with a male classmate when someone grabbed her wrist and cornered her in the steamy bathroom.

“Your boyfriend?”

She feigned composure. “You can think of him that way.”

He stared into her eyes, the corner of his mouth twitching. “Would you dare let your boyfriend know that you call me ‘big brother’ even in your dreams?”

Her heart pounded. She struggled to catch her breath before arguing, “We get along well as siblings. Calling you big brother is perfectly normal.”

Later, at a moment when her eyes were red and she felt utterly wronged,

he stopped and asked what she should call him.

“Big brother… I'll call you big brother, Jiyang.”

When she couldn't come up with an answer for a long while, Xiang Xueqing turned back at last, eyes blurred with tears.

His expression was calm. Looking down at her, unmoved, he asked, “What are we doing right now? Can siblings do this?”

“The snow had yet to fall, and we were already in love.”
