“We got married because we felt the same spark.”
*
The most outrageous thing Lin Wangshu had ever done was propose to a man she had met only three times, when she was twenty-five.
At the time, all she knew was that Chen Xihe was the founder of Zhizhen Group and the eldest son of the wealthy Chen family.
Lin Wangshu went to the blind date with no expectations, showing up just to humor everyone. But the moment she pushed open the door, she met a pair of deep, tranquil eyes.
The setting sun streamed through the glass that evening, casting patches of light across the indoor courtyard. The man sat on a wooden bench, the light tracing his sharply defined jaw and high nose bridge.
The instant their eyes met, all Lin Wangshu could hear was her heart pounding.
The man was considerate and polite, distinguished and elegant.
Even though she was attracted to him, Lin Wangshu knew the gap between them all too well.
Lin Wangshu had assumed Chen Xihe was there on his family's orders, but that evening he confessed his feelings with disarming directness.
Chen Xihe said earnestly, “I came to this blind date looking for marriage and a lifelong commitment. After meeting you today, I feel the same way. So, if you have even the slightest interest in seeing where this could go, would you tell me?”
*
Before their third date, Lin Wangshu unexpectedly fell ill and canceled at the last minute.
Her frail body curled up in a corner of the hospital, an IV drip still attached to her hand.
That was when Chen Xihe appeared.
Pressed against his warm chest, she felt safe for the first time in a long while.
She was so drawn to this moment that she didn't want to let someone this wonderful slip away. Suddenly, Lin Wangshu wanted to try truly being with Chen Xihe.
“Chen Xihe, you said before that you came to the blind date hoping to get married and spend your lives together. Do you still mean that?”
“I just want to ask you: would you marry me?”
Lin Wangshu couldn't understand why, after meeting Chen Xihe just three times, she had impulsively proposed to him with her head in a fog.
*
Only later did she learn that Chen Xihe had fallen for her before he ever met her.
His aunt had sent him a photo. A girl in graduation robes stood backlit, a few streaks of dyed pink hair fluttering in the wind. A smile curved her lips, and her eyes brimmed with happiness. The camera had captured that moment perfectly.
Chen Xihe had planned to turn down the blind date, but he froze the instant he opened the photo.
The world around him fell silent. Only one thought rose from the depths of his heart:
“That person... it's her.”
Among all the wonders of this world, only you hold my heart.
To Chen Xihe, love at first sight wasn't about being captivated by someone's looks. It was about finally finding you amid a world full of different faces.
For Lin Wangshu, it was the luckiest kind of married-first, love-later story: she met her ideal type on a blind date, and he happened to know at first sight that she was the one.

Forthcoming: Mint Snow Night
Across the drunken snow, over the bitter winter.
Here, spring has yet to arrive.
-
On the night of the first snow in 2018,
Xi Nianzhi met Wen Xubai for the first time.
The man stood beneath the eaves outside the courtyard, only a few steps away from her as she sheltered from the snow.
That night, snow fell softly onto his shoulders, but all Xi Nianzhi could hear was her own heartbeat.
Years passed before news of their arranged marriage arrived:
Wen Xubai was going to marry her.
After they married, Wen Xubai was considerate and polite, fulfilling all the responsibilities expected of a husband.
But Xi Nianzhi knew their marriage was merely a business partnership between their families.
She didn't want Wen Xubai to think she had ulterior motives, so she carefully hid all her feelings. She never asked him about anything, either.
Xi Nianzhi had always thought he was simply doing his duty as her husband.
Until one late night, Wen Xubai suddenly pulled her into his arms, resting his chin on her shoulder as he asked:
“Was it me that night in the snow?”
*
One day after they married, Wen Xubai noticed her growing mint.
He asked casually, “Why are you growing this?”
Xi Nianzhi's heart tightened, but her expression remained perfectly calm. “I like it.”
He said nothing more. But when he came home from work the next day, Xi Nianzhi found another pot of mint at home, right beside the one she was growing.
Late that night, Wen Xubai woke to find Xi Nianzhi gone. He went to the living room and saw her standing by the windowsill, looking at the mint.
He gently wrapped his arms around her from behind. “I bought a bunch on my way home today, so the mint you like wouldn't be lonely.”
Xi Nianzhi gazed at the two pots of mint, and suddenly her eyes grew hot.
He didn't know
that mint's flower language was: meeting again.
She grew mint because that snowy night, he had smelled faintly of it.
The mint had always remembered the feelings she never managed to put into words.
*
Another winter came. While sorting through old things, Xi Nianzhi came across a book she used to love, with a dried mint leaf tucked inside.
She had picked it up by the roadside on that first snowy night. She didn't know why she'd kept it; she just couldn't quite bear to let go of that night.
Footsteps sounded behind her, and Wen Xubai suddenly leaned closer. “What are you reading?”
She hastily closed the book and put it on the shelf as if nothing were amiss. “Nothing.”
That night, Xi Nianzhi tossed and turned, while Wen Xubai got up and left the bedroom, not returning for a long time.
When she opened the study door, she saw Wen Xubai leafing through the book, a mint leaf pinched between his fingers.
She panicked and tried to explain, only to hear him ask, “Did you pick this up after that snowy night?”
Xi Nianzhi froze. “How did you know?”
Wen Xubai put the mint leaf back in the book and closed it. Looking at her with a somber gaze, he said:
“Because I picked one up, too.”

Theme: Make peace with the past and embrace a new self
After reading it, I don't know how to thank the author for a long time. I've read a lot of books recently, but this one was the one I've read so many times that I almost cried while reading it. Because I resonated deeply with the heroine. She has a family of origin similar to hers, but she still faces life optimistically and lives a positive life. She met someone who could lift her up, accept her, and love everything about her. All the storylines in the article are so delicate and beautiful. May we all smile at life and meet the person who is a perfect match for us. Favorite passages: "Don't carve yourself up for others, your true self is good"; "Like is about caring about the advantages, and love is about tolerating the shortcomings"; "It turns out that the reason why we got married is the same heartbeat." These three sentences are treasured. Thank you very much, author. Thank you very much.
Spread the flowers, spread the flowers, spread the flowers, spread the flowers, spread the flowers.
