A lovesick hostage prince vs. a despairing princess
Amnesia + marriage before love + winning his wife back
Ning Wanyu was the most adored little princess of Lanruo. She met Yang Zhao, the Third Prince of Daqing. Yang Zhao begged Ning Wanyu to lend him Lanruo's support. The two signed a marriage contract, promising that once he ascended the throne, he would write her a divorce letter. To protect Lanruo, Ning Wanyu kept it secret from everyone and signed the contract.
But on their wedding day, before the red bridal finery had even been taken off, Yang Zhao broke his promise and personally led Daqing's cavalry to smash through Lanruo's gates. In the chaos of battle, his long sword pierced straight through the chest of her childhood sweetheart, Chu Qingyun.
On the city tower, Ning Wanyu witnessed it all. Her heart turned to ashes, and she leapt to her death.
She survived the fall by sheer luck but lost her memories. Before long, Lanruo, seeking peace at any cost, named her a princess to be sent away in a political marriage to Daqing.
Ning Wanyu refused to the death, resisting by fasting for three days. Unable to bear seeing her like that, Yang Zhao dangled the bait of a “three-year marriage contract” and tricked her into going through with the wedding.
For the next three years, she counted the days and looked forward to the contract's expiration, believing her Qingyun brother would come to take her home as promised.
