Cheng Xuezheng, a PhD in engineering, wakes up as a temporary worker at Hongxing Electrical Appliance Factory in 1980, and things are a disaster from the start:
Her family is desperately poor, she's framed at work, and she's about to be fired.
Her blind date curls his lip and says, "What can a woman ever amount to? You'd better get married while you can!"
Cheng Xuezheng: ...Fine. You'll soon be unable to comprehend just how far I'll go!
From then on, Hongxing Factory... no, the entire home-appliance industry undergoes a complete transformation:
When foreign-made fans are expensive and noisy, Cheng Xuezheng creates a quiet fan that sells out nationwide overnight.
When semi-automatic washing machines are still a rarity, the fully automatic model she leads the development of becomes a must-have for newlyweds.
When foreign color televisions still hold all the prestige, her homegrown TV knocks the foreign brands right off their pedestal.
The blind date who once looked down on her wakes up in the middle of the night and slaps himself.
The workshop director who once tried to fire her now respectfully calls her "Engineer Cheng."
The international giants that once monopolized the technology are pushed back step by step, until she ultimately brings them under her control.
She has only one goal: to take Chinese manufacturing to the world!
Theme: Make China a powerhouse in home appliances and take them to the world.
