Jiang Ming'ou, who grew up in a tiny county town, has two mountains looming over her life.
The first is her dad: he conned a rich woman out of 500,000 yuan, then became a monk after the divorce. Ask him why, and he'll say, "This humble monk has severed all worldly ties."
The second is Nan Zhiheng, the rich woman's daughter: she moves straight into Jiang Ming'ou's home and, for some reason, refuses to leave.
At first, Jiang Ming'ou is on her guard.
She takes her stepsister to the most expensive milk tea shop in the county, orders a cup of milk tea that costs a whopping ten yuan, and doesn't have enough money when it's time to pay.
Jiang Ming'ou: "Can we split the payment? Five yuan by QR code, five in cash."
Her stepsister: "...I'll get it."
To save up a little more money, Jiang Ming'ou gets a job at a milk tea shop.
Her stepsister sits in the shop from morning till night every day, watching her without so much as blinking her dark eyes.
Jiang Ming'ou: She must really love milk tea.
Then things start to get strange.
When Jiang Ming'ou takes her driving test, her stepsister gets up at five in the morning to drive her there.
When Jiang Ming'ou gets a score of 250 on her college entrance exam, her stepsister pats her back and comforts her: "Did my little one start crying? Let big sis have a look."
At one in the morning, Jiang Ming'ou wants to go chase the sunrise and wakes her stepsister.
Her stepsister drives her up a mountain to wait for dawn.
As the sky begins to turn red, Jiang Ming'ou turns and realizes her stepsister isn't watching the sunrise. She's watching her.
Jiang Ming'ou can't help asking, "Why haven't you left yet?"
Her stepsister replies calmly, "I'm lactose intolerant."
Jiang Ming'ou: "What?!"
Only then does she realize there's something she's been missing:
She doesn't seem to be trying to appease a creditor.
It seems like the creditor is the one spoiling her.

Nan Zhiheng never expected to find an unexpected treasure when she followed her mother to a small county town.
Her stepsister, Jiang Ming'ou, is slender and slight, her frame not yet fully grown, with all the awkwardness of youth still clinging to her. Poor, sensitive, and starved for affection, she nevertheless holds on to her sincere heart.
At first, Nan Zhiheng is simply intrigued.
But as her need to control and possess Jiang Ming'ou grows, everything spirals out of control.
Jiang Ming'ou, hurt and upset, throws her arms around Nan Zhiheng of her own accord. "I missed you so much."
A child, not quite grown, stumbling toward you with her whole heart and soul set on you.
Nan Zhiheng suddenly understands that what has troubled her all this time is love.
