Ji Tan worked himself to death from overtime, then ended up inside a novel about an artificial intelligence impostor that his unscrupulous boss had asked him to research. As soon as he opened his eyes, his nominal husband was about to send him into the operating room to "cut out his heart and lungs."
He tried to fight back, but was no match for them. His attempts to explain the law failed too. At the last possible moment, he spotted the person who had set the whole thing in motion: his unscrupulous boss. That bastard pretended not to know him and watched the show with his hands tucked into his sleeves.
In a fit of grief and anger, Ji Tan pulled out the proposal he'd filled with the blood and tears of an overworked wage slave, and shouted his accusation: "I shed tears all day and cried bitterly deep into the night for you. I worked without sleep or rest and suffered so much that I even lost my life. And you just stood there watching them bully me?"
Huh?
Everyone turned to look at the newly appointed governor of A City: the unscrupulous boss, dressed to the nines, in Ji Tan's eyes.
The governor: "Did that happen between us?"
His nominal husband: "What is going on between you two?!"
A City is a turbulent place where extraordinary powers exist, absurd and without order. Humans can gain supernatural abilities, remaining both clearheaded and insane. To survive in this deranged world full of domineering CEOs, heirs to powerful families, Buddhist holy men, and white moonlights, Ji Tan has no choice but to learn to disguise himself.
He must disguise himself as "normal," pretend that he "has something going on with the governor," and pretend to be... a god.
What if you viewed domineering CEO stories through a Lovecraftian lens? Then all the madness would have an explanation. (Not really.)
