[Morofushi Brothers] Endless Summer

Hiroshi Morofushi spent the summer vacation of his eleventh year in Nagano.

The swaying train carried him through the lush greenery of midsummer, bound for the hometown he had not seen in years.

Several years lay between them, and the way the brothers addressed each other had grown a little awkward.

But when they shared the same dining table,

walked together through flower-filled fields,

stood beneath the starry sky to pick out the Big Dipper,

and reminisced at a bus stop in the rain,

all the longing and concern left unspoken were hidden in the cup of warm milk passed to him, in the paper net used to scoop up goldfish, and finally blossomed in the grand fireworks of the festival.

Only when the train that symbolized their parting finally pulled out of the station

did Takaaki Morofushi suddenly understand:

these memories would be enough to light every road he walked alone from then on.

This summer will never end.

A story about the Morofushi brothers' bond, with a character death.

A mountain of headcanons and wildly out-of-character rumors. My apologies.
